John Richards (whose family owned our field until last year) stopped me at his gate this evening to show me two watercolour paintings given to his family by the artist. One shows the field, probably in the 1980s we think, with ?Hereford cattle grazing around the old barn (now derelict) at the bottom of the field. Then the field was divided up by fences (rather than hedges) to manage the livestock and the damp area - once called the Bog since it was really wet (before the land drain was put in) was also fenced out (that is to the left of the painting below). It's interesting to see the grazing looked quite 'rough' in this painting, and can I see just a haze of Bluebells near the gable end of the barn?! I cannot find any information about the artist H L Deeley, so far but it's a lovely little study of the field, so very obviously painted in situ.

what a joy and how interesting, I’m just soooo envious, but it’s a field in good hands. Good to get some local knowledge too, I have never heard of the artist, I hope you discover more about them.
